Some of our initiatives include restoring old spectacles and gifting it to those in need. We therefore encourage you to also bring all your old spectacles (even if it’s broken) to your next appointment so we can give someone else’s eyes the love it deserves!

Communities we have been involved with in the past:

Why Should You Consider An Eye Exam Every Second Year?

General health care could start with an eye examination.

Here are 7 reasons to go for an annual eye test at your local Optometrist:

    1. To be able to see clearly. Regular eye examination keeps vision at optimum levels, also for drivers license purposes.
    2. Preventable eye diseases are diagnosed at an early stage. Cataracts and Glaucoma are identified before causing irreversible vision damage.
    3. Certain life threatening diseases can be diagnosed during an eye exam! Your Optometrist can identify Diabetes as well as symptoms of brain tumours during a thorough visual examination.
    4. Specific headaches can be treated with Vision Correction
    5. Wearing of spectacles can drastically reduce eye strainespecially with Driving, Night Driving and Computer use, and prevent further vision deterioration. Good vision is not necessarily “comfortable vision.”
    6. Your eyes don’t always let you know they are under strain; many serious eye conditions do not show symptoms, but can be identified during an Optometric eye examination (not a license screening test).
    7. Developmental problems with children. Some children with learning disorders may just be suffering from vision problems. This can easily be identified and corrected with the correct advice and therapy.

    DID YOU KNOW?

The 5 Myths About Eye Care

Myth #1: If I pass my Driver’s License Vision Assessment, my eyes are in good shape.

The eye test you undergo when renewing your driver’s license is NOT a comprehensive test on your general eye health and should thus not be interpreted as such. It is important to still have a general eye test done at your optometrist once every two years.

Myth #2: I need Medical Aid to afford quality eye care.

At André Gilliland & Associates Optometry, we evaluate your specific eye care needs and tailor a solution that will fit your budget. We have many affordable packages and also accept more than one payment method.

Myth #3: If I go for an eye exam at my optometrist, it means I will get spectacles.

An eye exam does not necessarily lead to spectacles. By having eye exams done regularly (at least once every two years), you allow your optometrist to act proactively by preventing future vision/health problems with good advice and planning.

Myth #4: Eye Care’s pricing is the same all year round.

Eye Care cost can be seasonal. Winter usually has a slower business environment. Try to schedule your eye care appointment as pricing will generally be more affordable.

Myth #5: Local Optometrists does not have the same specials as advertised on TV.

All optometrists can offer you specials as advertised on TV (e.g. a free extra pair of spectacles or free frame specials). Make sure to ask your local optometrist about their deals as they often have stock readily available.
